Art Expo

Today Eastern Hutt School had an Art Expo. Each class made amazing art and it was displayed in the Hall, Library and G Block.

The theme for the Art Expo was - The Environment.

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Our art explores the idea of giving rubbish (computer boxes) a second life by turning it into something beautiful. Use your imagination when viewing these sculptures.

Ice Cream Sundaes

As part of our financial literacy learning we had an Ice Cream Parlour in our class today. Each person was paid $10 and could buy the ingredients to make a delicious ice cream sundae.
We had to record our spending on a cash book. This taught us to add and subtract money and to make choices about what we could spend our money on.

We thought our sundaes were scrummy!!

Energy Efficient Houses

During our Energy for the Future inquiry each person in the class designed and made a model of an energy efficient house. The models show examples of insulation, double glazing, draft stopping, solar panels, wind turbines, water collection tanks and windows that face north to catch the warmth from the sun.

Second Life Exhibition

During our current Inquiry called Creative Energy we visited Pataka museum to view the Second Life exhibition. The exhibition showed that art can be made out of things that would otherwise be thrown away. Rubbish was given a second life.

The photo above shows example of the art we made there. They are called World in a Can and are based on the art of Peter Madden.

Next term we will be having a school art expo and G1s art shows how we have given a second life to old computer boxes.
